State of Mobile Banking in Tanzania and Security Issues

Abstract

Mobile technology offers an unprecedented growth opportunity for banking industry in Tanzania. As the economy continues to prosper, increasingly affluent consumers and underbanked segments create demand for new financial products and services. Many consumers in Tanzania have mobile phones, but not bank accounts. Therefore, the mobile channel presents an effective way to connect them to the national financial grid. For the local banks, going mobile may increase banks opportunities to unlock the inherent potential of underbanked segments. This paper addresses the current state, future prospects, and security challenges to the usage of mobile banking in Tanzania.

Analysis and Comparison of Symmetric Key Cryptographic Algorithms Based on Various File Features

Abstract

For achieving faster communication most of confidential data is circulated through networks as electronic data. Cryptographic ciphers have an important role for providing security to these confidential data against unauthorized attacks. Though security is an important factor, there are various factors that can affect the performance and selection of cryptographic algorithms during the practical implementation of these cryptographic ciphers for various applications. This paper provides analysis and comparison of some symmetric key cryptographic ciphers (RC4, AES, Blowfish, RC2, DES, Skipjack, and Triple DES) on the basis of encryption time with the variation of various file features like different data types, data size, data density and key sizes.

Evaluation of Enhanced Security Solutions in 802.11-Based Networks

Abstract

Traditionally, 802.11-based networks that relied on wired equivalent protocol (WEP) were especially vulnerable to packet sniffing. Today, wireless networks are more prolific, and the monitoring devices used to find them are mobile and easy to access. Securing wireless networks can be difficult because these networks consist of radio transmitters and receivers, and anybody can listen, capture data and attempt to compromise it. In recent years, a range of technologies and mechanisms have helped makes networking more secure. This paper holistically evaluated various enhanced protocols proposed to solve WEP related authentication, confidentiality and integrity problems. It discovered that strength of each solution depends on how well the encryption, authentication and integrity techniques work. The work suggested using a Defence-in-Depth Strategy and integration of biometric solution in 802.11i. Comprehensive in-depth comparative analysis of each of the security mechanisms is driven by review of related work in WLAN security solutions.

Analysis of RSA Algorithm using GPU Programming

Abstract

Modern-day computer security relies heavily on cryptography as a means to protect the data that we have become increasingly reliant on. The main research in computer security domain is how to enhance the speed of RSA algorithm. The computing capability of Graphic Processing Unit as a co-processor of the CPU can leverage massive-parallelism. This paper presents a novel algorithm for calculating modulo value that can process large power of numbers which otherwise are not supported by built-in data types. First the traditional algorithm is studied. Secondly, the parallelized RSA algorithm is designed using CUDA framework. Thirdly, the designed algorithm is realized for small prime numbers and large prime number . As a result the main fundamental problem of RSA algorithm such as speed and use of poor or small prime numbers that has led to significant security holes, despite the RSA algorithm's mathematical soundness can be alleviated by this algorithm.
