SECURITY & PRIVACY THREATS, ATTACKS AND COUNTERMEASURES IN INTERNET OF THINGS

ABSTRACT

The idea to connect everything to anything and at any point of time is what vaguely defines the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT is not only about providing connectivity but also facilitating interaction among these connected things. Though the term IoT was introduced in 1999 but has drawn significant attention during the past few years, the pace at which new devices are being integrated into the system will profoundly impact the world in a good way but also poses some severe queries about security and privacy. IoT in its current form is susceptible to a multitudinous set of attacks. One of the most significant concerns of IoT is to provide security assurance for the data exchange because data is vulnerable to some attacks by the attackers at each layer of IoT. The IoT has a layered structure where each layer provides a service. The security needs vary from layer to layer as each layer serves a different purpose. This paper aims to analyze the various security and privacy threats related to IoT. Some attacks have been discussed along with some existing and proposed countermeasures.

ABSTRACT

With the ever increasing numberand diverse type of attacks, including new and previouslyunseen attacks, the effectiveness of an Intrusion DetectionSystem is very important. Hence there is high demand to reduce the threat level in networks to ensure the data and services offered by them to be more secure. In this paper we developed an effective test suite for improving the efficiency and accuracy of an intrusion detection system using the layered CRFs. We set up different types of checks at multiple levels in each layer. Our framework examines various attributes at every layer in order to effectively identify any breach of security. Once the attack is detected, it is intimated throughmobile phone to the system administrator for safeguarding the server system. We established experimentally that the layered CRFs can thus be more effectivein detecting intrusions when compared with the other previouslyknown techniques.

ABSTRACT
Similarity coefficients play an important role in many aspects.Recently, several schemes were proposed, but these schemes aimed to compute the similarity coefficients of binary data. In this paper, a novel scheme which can compute the coefficients of integer is proposed. To the best knowledge of us,this is the first scheme which canesist malicious adversaries attack.

Performance of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication using IEEE 802.11p in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network Environment

ABSTRACT
Traffic safety applications using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication is an emerging and promising area within the ITS environment. Many of these applications require real-time communication with high reliability. To meet a real-time deadline, timely and predictable access to the channel is paramount. The medium access method used in 802.11p, CSMA with collision avoidance, does not guarantee channel access before a finite deadline. The well-known property of CSMA is undesirable for critical communications scenarios. The simulation results reveal that a specific vehicle is forced to drop over 80% of its packets because no channel access was possible before the next message was generated. To overcome this problem, we propose to use STDMA for real-time data traffic between vehicles. The realtime properties of STDMA are investigated by means of the highway road simulation scenario, with promising results.
