Enhance RFID Security Against Brute Force Attack Based on Password Strength and Markov Model

Abstract

RFID systems are one of the important techniques that have been used in modern technologies; these systems rely heavily on default and random passwords. Due to the increasing use of RFID in various industries, security and privacy issues should be addressed carefully as there is no efficient way to achieve security in this technology. Some active tags are low cost and basic tags cannot use standard cryptographic operations where the uses of such techniques increase the cost of these cards. This paper sheds light on the weaknesses of RFID system and identifies the threats and countermeasures of possible attacks. For the sake of this paper, an algorithm was designed to ensure and measure the strength of passwords used in the authentication process between tag and reader to enhance security in their communication and defend against brute-force attacks. Our algorithm is design by modern techniques based on entropy, password length, cardinality, Markov-model and Fuzzy Logic.

Cyberguard: Fake Profile Detection using Machine Learning

Abstract

Social media platforms that foster high levels of user engagement, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, have huge impact on people's lives everywhere. They still have issues with false profiles, which may be created by automated systems, computer programs, or individuals. These false accounts facilitate illicit activities like phishing and identity theft as well as the dissemination of rumors. To solve this issue, our study employs many machine learning techniques to differentiate between authentic and fraudulent Twitter profiles. Analysis is done using key data including the quantity of friends and followers, activity trends, and more.

The algorithms such as Random Forest, XG Boost, LSTM, and neural networks emphasizes how crucial itis to choose important criteria while evaluating social media accounts. After training, the models generatea value of 1 for bogus profiles and 0 for real ones, allowing for the identification and the removal of bogus profiles to lessen cybersecurity risks.

Decentralized Energy Trading in Smart Grids: A Blockchain-Based Framework for Efficiency and Transparency

Abstract

As the world increasingly adopts renewable energy, the importance of smart grids grows. Integrating renewable sources into the current grid presents technical and economic challenges. Blockchain technology offers a promising solution by enabling decentralized energy trading, allowing efficient exchanges between producers and consumers. This paper proposes a detailed framework for integrating blockchain into the smart grid. The framework includes developing a blockchain-based platform for energy trading, creating smart contracts to manage and automate transactions, and incorporating IoT devices for energy data collection and sharing. By leveraging blockchain's transparency, security, and decentralization, our proposed system aims to address inefficiencies and foster a more resilient energy infrastructure. This approach could enhance the sustainability and reliability of energy distribution, supporting the transition to renewable sources. We believe our framework has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency and sustainability of the smart grid, paving the way for a more robust and adaptive energy system capable of meeting future demands.

The Mesa Security Model 2.0: A Dynamic Framework for Mitigating Stealth Data Exfiltration

Abstract

The rising complexity of cyber threats calls for a comprehensive reassessment of current security frameworks in business environments. This research focuses on Stealth Data Exfiltration (SDE), a significant cyber threat characterized by covert infiltration, extended undetectability, and unauthorized dissemination of confidential data. Our findings reveal that conventional defense-in-depth strategies often fall short in combating these sophisticated threats, highlighting the immediate need for a shift in information risk management across businesses. The evolving nature of cyber threats, driven by advancements in techniques, such as social engineering, multi-vector attacks, and the emergence of Generative AI, underscores the need for robust, adaptable, and comprehensive security strategies. As we continue to navigate this complex landscape, it is crucial that we stay ahead of the curve, anticipating potential threats, and continually updating our defenses to protect against them.

We propose a shift from traditional perimeter-based, prevention-focused models, which depend on a static attack surface, to a more dynamic framework that prepares for inevitable breaches. This suggested model, known as ‘MESA 2.0 Security Model’, prioritizes swift detection, immediate response, and ongoing resilience, thereby enhancing an organization’s ability to promptly identify and neutralize threats, significantly reducing the consequences of security breaches. This study suggests that businesses adopt a forward-thinking and adaptable approach to security management, which is crucial for staying ahead of the ever-changing cyber threat landscape. By shifting focus from merely preventing incidents to effectively managing them, organizations can better safeguard their vital digital assets against the increasingly complex tactics used by contemporary cyber adversaries. This study provides valuable insights and a solid strategic framework that aims to steer the development of future security practices and policies to effectively address and mitigate advanced persistent threats.

A Systematic Risk Assessment Approach for Securing the Smart Irrigation Systems

Abstract

The smart irrigation system represents an innovative approach to optimize water usage in agricultural and landscaping practices. The integration of cutting-edge technologies, including sensors, actuators, and data analysis, empowers this system to provide accurate monitoring and control of irrigation processes by leveraging real-time environmental conditions. The main objective of a smart irrigation system is to optimize water efficiency, minimize expenses, and foster the adoption of sustainable water management methods. This paper conducts a systematic risk assessment by exploring the key components/assets and their functionalities in the smart irrigation system. The crucial role of sensors in gathering data on soil moisture, weather patterns, and plant well-being is emphasized in this system. These sensors enable intelligent decision-making in irrigation scheduling and water distribution, leading to enhanced water efficiency and sustainable water management practices. Actuators enable automated control of irrigation devices, ensuring precise and targeted water delivery to plants. Additionally, the paper addresses the potential threat and vulnerabilities associated with smart irrigation systems. It discusses limitations of the system, such as power constraints and computational capabilities, and calculates the potential security risks. The paper suggests possible risk treatment methods for effective secure system operation. In conclusion, the paper emphasizes the significant benefits of implementing smart irrigation systems, including improved water conservation, increased crop yield, and reduced environmental impact. Additionally, based on the security analysis conducted, the paper recommends the implementation of countermeasures and security approaches to address vulnerabilities and ensure the integrity and reliability of the system. By incorporating these measures, smart irrigation technology can revolutionize water management practices in agriculture, promoting sustainability, resource efficiency, and safeguarding against potential security threats.
